Delta 4 Secret Space Plane

Hello Geoff and UK friends,
Remember that Delta 4 Rocket Launch that blasted off from Cape Canaveral Fl. in Mid April this year?  Well .. The Secret Space Plane is orbiting the Earth at this very moment. And two Amateur Astronomers spotted  the Vessel. For those in the States you can get Fly-By information by using  web-site www.spaceweather.com   for those in the UK you can use www.Heavens-Above.com
Here's a short story from Space Weather.com
X-37B

BRIGHTNESS: 2 (like stars in the Big Dipper)

The X-37B is a unmanned space plane, similar to the space shuttle, launched from Cape Canaveral on April 22, 2010, " Star Hunters Birthday" on a secret mission for the US Air Force. Since then it has been operating in low Earth orbit. On May 20th, two amateur satellite watchers independently spotted a previously unknown object. It was determined that they had found the X-37B. During high elevation passes, the secret shuttle shines like a star of magnitude 2.5, similar to the stars of the Big Dipper. This means it is easily visible from rural sites, and a bit of a challenge from urban areas.

Once the Military Space Plane has completed it's test flight, It is suppose to re-enter Earths Atmosphere and land  Boeings Picture below

A Glimmer of Hope?

Hello Geoff and friends :

Finally we got a glimmer of hope, Like we can see a light at the end of the Tunnel: Please read how they plan to distribute the monies for Space Industry Growth.

UNANIMOUS SUPPORT BY FLORIDA LEGISLATURE FACILITATES COMPETITIVE SPACE INDUSTRY IN FLORIDA

The Florida Legislative Session Delivers $31 Million+ for Space Industry Growth :

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 6, 2010) – Florida’s space industry remained a forefront issue for legislators throughout the 2010 legislative session, which concluded on April 30. Faced with the impending Shuttle retirement (expected to result in 23,000 direct and indirect job losses, contributing to significant economic impact across the state), the legislature voted to unanimously support critical legislation designed to stimulate economic development and promote aerospace industry jobs.

Strong leadership and commitment by House and Senate leaders – included incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos and incoming Speaker, Dean Cannon – along with an active Space Caucus mobilized by Representative Rich Workman, were key in getting $31+ million approved to focus on diversifying Florida’s space industry and improving recruitment and expansion efforts of aerospace-related businesses. These investments will drive the creation of high-tech jobs and will be directed in the following manner:

  • $11.1 million for infrastructure projects, including:
    • $7.5 million for Exploration Park, Phase I
    • $3.6 million for Space Launch Complex infrastructure
  • $10 million in financing assistance benefiting launch service and payload processing providers
  • $3.2 million for workforce development assistance
  • $3 million for expanded business development and recruiting activities
  • $3.8 million for Space Florida operations

“I am extremely grateful to the Florida legislature for providing bold leadership on this year’s critical space-related bills and investment needs,” stated Space Florida President Frank DiBello. “These investments will help Space Florida fully leverage the resources of the State and drive actions in capturing key space-related target industries. Florida is uniquely positioned to leverage opportunities in NASA’s new direction, the Air Force’s commitment to commercial space activity, and Florida’s drive toward capturing and growing its innovation economy. As we continue to work with our statewide partners, this unified support will help ensure that we meet our goal of expanding the state’s aerospace industry three-fold by 2020.”

Tremendous gratitude goes the many sponsors and co-sponsors of this vital legislation that passed in the 2010 legislative session including:

  • SB1752/HB1509 “Jobs for Florida” sponsored by Senator Gaetz & Representative Weatherford
  • SB2500/HB1389 “Space Transition And Revitalization (STAR) Act” sponsored by Senator Altman & Representative Crisafulli
  • SB1178/HB121 “Cost Benefit Analysis” sponsored by Senator Haridopolos and Representatives Poppell, Crisafulli, & Hudson
  • SB1776/HB969 “Proviso Flexibility” sponsored by Senator Altman & Representative Crisafulli, will take effect immediately upon Governor Crist’s signature.

Bills passed this session will enable Florida to face global markets with highly competitive commercial spaceports that offer cost-effective, timely access to space.

Space Shuttle Atlantis

Hello Geoff and friends from the DASOC:
As you know our President cancelled the Constellation project. even though the first test flight of the ARIES rocket was a success.
Hard Times have hit us all! I have hundreds of friends that will be losing their jobs once the Space Shuttle contract is over with. And with no real "SPACE DIRECTION".... What is in store for the future? It's all politics, and I hate It!

Sure the Atlantis Space Shuttle is posing on the Launch Pad and is ready for it's May 14th Launch, and we hope nothing but the best to our astronaut friends and those living in the Space Station,  But the truth Is..... That just gets us one mission closer to closing the doors or jobs for a bunch of people. Until we can come up with a good firm "Space DIRECTION",

The Space Industry in Central Florida and the rest of the country is going to be hurting BAD. I don't want to bring any one down, but It's the plain truth, jobs will be LOST!

But on a good note!.... I have a piece I copied from the NASA website, with the latest on the Space Shuttle Atlantis! May she fly TRUE and return home Safely with her Crew!

News from Space coast U.S.A.

Hello Geoff:   Space Coast News!! Astronomy and Space Travel

Here is a great E tube Time Lapse video showing the ARES 1 X rocket Roll-Out from the (VAB) Vehicle Assembly Bldg. to Launch Pad 39 A . The Rocket looks impressive on top of the  (MLP) Mobile Launch Platform. The rocket is held down on the MLP with 4 large Nuts, that are blown off mili seconds before Liftoff.  People that watch the roll-out said that you could see the Rocket sway from left to right.

The trip took over 8 hours to complete. As the rocket was entering the Launch pad area, you can clearly see the clouds going by . and that's the way It looked on the day of the first test Launch of the ARES 1 X Rocket, which was suppose to blast off on Oct. 27, 2009 EDT at 8: am , but the clouds were so bad you could not see the Atlantic ocean from the Launch Pads.

The Lift-off was bump back till 10:45 am , hoping the clouds would clear, not a chance, Bump again till 11: am, than 11:15 am . Noon was the Launch cut off time and they would have to re-scheduled the launch for another day.

Then we got the news they SCRUB the launch for today! We will do it all over again tomorrow. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate for the second attempt.    Stay tuned for more info from the (BAS) Brevard Astronomical Society  check out our web site  www.brevardastro.org
