On June 21st 2015 Dunfermline Astronomical Society along with Dalgety Bay Astro Club are taking part in the event outlined below. A scale model of the Solar System has been marked out in Anstruther Fife and this will be the official opening day. We will be on hand with several telescopes and a display area where we hope to allow the public to look through our specially adapted telescope at the Sun and observe Solar Prominences and sunsets as well as surface detail. We will explain our various telescopes and be on hand to answer all your questions. A great day envisaged for you and the kids make a day of it bring a picnic or partake of the local hostelries smile emoticon

Anstruther Model Solar System - Opening Celebration June 21st
Anstruther's scale model of the Solar system. It is 600 m from the Sun to Pluto, and the distances and bodies are all to the same scale, 1 to 10 000 000 000. We are
having an opening celebration on June 21st 2015, which will end with tea and biscuits etc at the Dreel Halls (which is just round the corner from Neptune).

The model consists of a display board on the Folly, located opposite the foot of Hadfoot Wynd, and 11 bronzed plates fixed to the frontages, mostly along Shore Street, but ending up about 100 metres past the Dreel Tavern on the way to Pittenweem. The Sun is at the old Sun Tavern, which until recently was the Tourist Information Centre, and is located across the road from the Lifeboat Shed.
